When it comes to mental illness, there are no quick fixes, and, at least at this time, no cures. There are ways to treat mental disorders and to manage them, although none of them are “one size fits all” — a treatment (therapeutic, pharmaceutical, noninvasive procedures) that works for one person may not work for another

There’s a growing market for at-home devices that purport to be effective in treating depression. As someone who lives with major depression and is familiar with the desperation to find some — any — relief from it, I’m skeptical of such claims.

There’s a lot to explore on this topic, more than I had space for in this piece. But it’s a start.
