Taking a Big Bite

I met Misty Talley in early 2016 through a mutual friend. The three of us saw The Witch, a horror film set in Puritan New England. The movie, though visually arresting, wasn’t particularly memorable, but Talley certainly was. She was smart, funny, a lively storyteller and conversationalist. When she mentioned that she had directed a movie in Syfy’s “Sharknado” franchise, I was curious; when it turned out that she was the first woman to have directed a movie made by Syfy, I was even more intrigued.

The only downside to the hour-plus interview I had with Talley was transcribing it. Transcription is grueling.
